Mutations Guide โ€” How Mutations Work, Stack & What They Are Worth

Complete mutations reference: what triggers each mutation, how additive stacking works, the best mutation combos, and exactly how much each multiplier is worth in Shillings.

MutationsStarstruckShockedWeatherMultipliers

Mutations are weather-triggered special effects that add a multiplier to your plants' value. They stack additively with each other and with the Lush variant, making high-mutation Lush plants the most valuable things in the game. This guide covers every confirmed mutation, how stacking works, and the best combos to chase.

How Mutations Work

When a weather event occurs, any plant on your plot that was planted during that weather event (or sometimes exposed to it) can receive a mutation. Mutations are additive: each mutation adds its multiplier to the plant's base multiplier pool.

โ„น๏ธ Additive stacking โ€” not multiplicative

Mutations do not multiply each other. They add together. Starstruck (6.5ร—) + Shocked (4.5ร—) = 11ร— total bonus, not 29.25ร—. This means chasing multiple moderate mutations can be very worthwhile.

Rain weather gives two common mutations (Flooded + Soaked), meaning plants planted in Rain can receive both for a combined 1.5 + 1.5 = 3ร— bonus. Snow similarly offers Chilled + Snowy for 1.5 + 2 = 3.5ร—.

Additive Stacking โ€” The Formula

The stacking formula in Garden Horizons is additive across all mutations a plant has. The final value multiplier is calculated as:

Final Value Formula

Base Price ร— Variant Multiplier ร— (1 + ฮฃ Mutation Multipliers)

Note: exact formula may be refined as more data is confirmed

Example: Lush Beetroot with Starstruck + Shocked

ComponentValue
Base price3,750 ๐Ÿ’ฐ
Lush variant (3ร—)ร— 3
Starstruck mutation+ 6.5
Shocked mutation+ 4.5
Total multiplier1 + 6.5 + 4.5 = 12ร—
Estimated sell value3,750 ร— 3 ร— 12 = 135,000 ๐Ÿ’ฐ

๐Ÿ’ก Even common mutations add up

Rain gives Flooded + Soaked (+3ร— total). A Lush Carrot (30 ๐Ÿ’ฐ base) with both Rain mutations: 30 ร— 3 ร— (1 + 1.5 + 1.5) = 30 ร— 3 ร— 4 = 360 ๐Ÿ’ฐ. That's 12ร— the plain value.

The Best Mutations to Chase

1. Starstruck (6.5ร—) โ€” Starfall Event

Starstruck is the highest single-mutation multiplier in the game. It triggers during Starfall events, which occur periodically in the 5-minute weather cycle. Starfall is rare โ€” when it happens, stop whatever you are doing and plant your most valuable seeds immediately.

2. Shocked (4.5ร—) โ€” Thunderstorm Event

Shocked is the second-best mutation and triggers during Thunderstorm. Thunderstorms are more frequent than Starfall but less predictable. Having seeds ready to plant the moment a Thunderstorm begins is key.

3. Snowy (2ร—) + Chilled (1.5ร—) โ€” Snow Event

Snow gives both Chilled and Snowy to the same plant for a combined 3.5ร— bonus. Snow is more frequent than Starfall and Thunderstorm, making it a reliable mid-tier mutation source during longer farming sessions.

4. Rain Stack โ€” Flooded + Soaked (3ร— combined)

Rain is one of the most common weather events and grants two mutations simultaneously. The 3ร— combined bonus is solid and easy to farm consistently.

Best Mutation Combos

โš ๏ธ You can only get mutations at planting time

A plant receives mutations based on the weather active when it was planted. You cannot add mutations to a plant that is already in the ground. If you miss a Starfall, the only way to get Starstruck is to plant new seeds during the next Starfall.

Knowing which mutations are available is only half the battle. Understanding when to plant and how to time your sessions around weather events is what separates good farmers from great ones. See the Weather & Farming Strategy guide.
