Mutations Guide — How Mutations Work, Stack & What They Are Worth

Complete mutations reference: what triggers each mutation, how additive stacking works, the best mutation combos, and exactly how much each multiplier is worth in Shillings.

MutationsStarstruckShockedWeatherMultipliers

Mutations are weather-triggered special effects that add a multiplier to your plants' value. They stack additively with each other and with the Lush variant, making high-mutation Lush plants the most valuable things in the game. This guide covers every confirmed mutation, how stacking works, and the best combos to chase.

How Mutations Work

When a weather event occurs, any plant on your plot that was planted during that weather event (or sometimes exposed to it) can receive a mutation. Mutations are additive: each mutation adds its multiplier to the plant's base multiplier pool.

ℹ️ Mutation stacking formula: Σ(mult_i) + 1 − n

Mutations use the formula Σ(multipliers) + 1 − n (sum of all multipliers, plus 1, minus the count). Meteoric (10×) + Foggy (1.25×) = 10+1.25+1−2 = 10.25× total, not 11.25×. A single mutation is unchanged: Meteoric alone = 10+1−1 = 10×. Chasing a second mutation is slightly less effective than raw addition, but still very worthwhile.

Each weather event can trigger specific mutations, but exclusion rules apply: Flooded and Soaked cannot coexist on the same crop (Rain gives one or the other), and Snowy and Chilled cannot coexist either. However, mutations from different weather types can combine — this is how combo mutations like Frostbit (Soaked + Snowy → 3.5×) and Muddy (Flooded + Sandy → 5×) are formed.

Additive Stacking — The Formula

The stacking formula in Garden Horizons is additive across all mutations a plant has. The final value multiplier is calculated as:

Mutation Multiplier Formula (confirmed)

MutationMult = Σ(mult_i) + 1 − n

n = number of mutations. Single mutation: X+1−1 = X (unchanged). Two mutations: sum − 1. Verified with in-game data.

Example: Lush Beetroot with Meteoric

ComponentValue
Base price (sellUnripe)2,000 💰
Meteoric mutation10×
Lush ripening× 3
Final multiplier10 × 3 = 30×
Estimated sell value2,000 × 10 × 3 = 60,000 💰

💡 Even common mutations add up

A Lush Carrot (30 💰 base) with Flooded (1.75×): 30 × 1.75 × 3 = 157 💰. That's over 5× the plain Unripe value. Stack a combo mutation like Frostbit (3.5×) and it jumps to 30 × 3.5 × 3 = 315 💰.

The Best Mutations to Chase

1. Meteoric (10×) — Meteor Shower Event

Meteoric is the highest single-mutation multiplier in the game. It triggers during Meteor Shower events, which are extremely rare. When one appears, drop everything and plant your most expensive seeds immediately.

2. Starstruck (6.5×) — Starfall

Starstruck triggers during Starfall events. At 6.5× it is the second-highest confirmed mutation in the game. Black Hole weather with Nova and Galactic mutations has been found in the game code but has not been officially released yet.

3. Muddy (5×) — Rain + Sandstorm combo

Muddy is a powerful combo mutation that forms when a crop has both Flooded (from Rain) and Sandy (from Sandstorm). It replaces both precursors and gives a 5× multiplier — one of the strongest mutations achievable through weather stacking.

4. Shocked (4.5×) — Thunderstorm Event

Shocked triggers during Thunderstorm. Note: Shocked and Starstruck can stack on the same crop — they come from different weather events (Thunderstorm vs Starfall), so there is no exclusion between them. Getting both gives 4.5+6.5+1−2 = 10× mutation multiplier, the best natural combo.

Best Mutation Combos

ComboTotal Mutation SumHow to Get
Meteoric + Shocked13.5×Meteor Shower → Thunderstorm
Meteoric + Starstruck15.5×Meteor Shower → Starfall
Starstruck + Muddy10.5×Starfall → Rain + Sandstorm combo
Shocked + Starstruck10×Thunderstorm + Starfall — best natural weather combo
Starstruck + FrostbitStarfall → Rain + Snow combo
Shocked + Muddy8.5×Thunderstorm → Rain + Sandstorm combo
Muddy (combo)Rain (Flooded) → Sandstorm (Sandy) — combines into Muddy
Frostbit (combo)3.5×Rain (Soaked) → Snow (Snowy) — Frostbit forms, Soaked stays active
Mossy (combo)3.5×Fog (Foggy) + Snow (Chilled) — all three mutations (Foggy + Chilled + Mossy) stack

⚠️ Key exclusion rules

Flooded and Soaked cannot coexist on the same crop. Snowy and Chilled cannot coexist. Shocked and Starstruck can stack together (4.5+6.5+1−2 = 10× on the same crop — the best natural combo). Note: Frostbit removes only Snowy (Soaked stays active). Muddy removes both Flooded and Sandy. Mossy keeps all three mutations active (Foggy + Chilled + Mossy all add together).

Knowing which mutations are available is only half the battle. Understanding when to plant and how to time your sessions around weather events is what separates good farmers from great ones. See the Weather & Farming Strategy guide.
