Combat on The Forgotten Isle is the first active-fighting system in Garden Horizons. Seven enemy types patrol the island: three melee roamers (Bandit, Monk, Brute), two ranged threats (Tribal Warrior with a Spear, Pirate with a Flintlock musket), and two event-only Raiders (Raid Bandit, Raid Pirate) that spawn during the Bandit Raid event. Every kill drops Pearls in a fixed range, so combat is one of your three primary Pearl income streams alongside chest hunting and node farming.
Tool Damage: Every Swing Counts
Your outbound damage per swing scales with the harvest tool you have equipped:
- Knife — 10 damage. Starter tool everyone spawns with. Free.
- Machete — 15 damage. 500 Pearls at Capt' Roger.
- Pickaxe — 20 damage. 2,000 Pearls, Mining category.
- Scimitar — 25 damage. 8,000 Pearls.
- GoldScimitar — 30 damage. 30,000 Pearls, Legendary Cutting.
- CrystalPickaxe — 35 damage. 150,000 Pearls, Mythical Mining. Highest single-swing damage in the game.
Aggressive vs Neutral Behavior
Six of the seven enemies are aggressive: they chase on sight the moment you enter their aggro range (26 to 40 studs). Monk is the only neutral enemy — Monks patrol the island in a dedicated idle animation and never attack unless you attack first. You can walk past a Monk safely if you are not looking for combat. Engaging one turns them aggressive for the rest of that fight.
Ranged Threats: Cover Matters
Pirate fires a Flintlock at 180 studs per second — the fastest projectile in the game — from up to 45 studs away, dealing 18 damage per shot. Tribal Warrior throws Spears at 65 studs per second from up to 30 studs, 15 damage per hit. Both are punishing in the open. Approach behind cover (rocks, chests, palm trees) and close the distance to melee range before engaging. Once you are inside 10 studs, a ranged enemy cannot line up its shot as easily.
Bandit Raid Event: Raiders Do Not Respawn
The Bandit Raid event ("Raiders are hitting the shops! Fight them off with your SHOVEL!") is a 7-minute scripted invasion that spawns Raid Bandits and Raid Pirates near the shops. Raiders do NOT respawn — clearing them all ends the event. Full-clear pays out the combined Pearl reward as a lump sum, worth several hundred Pearls in one shot, easily outperforming node farming for the raid duration.
Which Tool for Which Enemy?
Rough cheat sheet, based on HP divided by damage rounded up:
- Bandit (40 HP): Machete two-shots. Knife four-shots. Camp one spawn for the first Pearl grind.
- Monk (70 HP): Scimitar three-shots. Only fight when you have Scimitar or better, otherwise skip.
- Brute (130 HP): GoldScimitar five-shots, Scimitar six-shots. Never engage with Knife or Machete — 3 Brute hits will drop a full-HP player.
- Tribal Warrior (160 HP): CrystalPickaxe five-shots (best combined DPS + kite window). Scimitar seven-shots.
- Pirate (120 HP): GoldScimitar four-shots, CrystalPickaxe four-shots. Approach from behind cover to close distance safely.
