Pearls are the second currency in Garden Horizons, added in the Islands Update. Unlike Shillings, which you earn everywhere on the mainland, Pearls only drop on The Forgotten Isle. Once you unlock the island and pay Capt' Roger 3 Nails, 6 Wood, and 1 Rose, every activity there feeds into your Pearl balance.
Pearls are spent in two places: Roger's harvest tool shop on the island dock, and Aladdin's Pearl Shop for the 26 rotating decorations. This guide covers every way to earn them, ordered by risk and pace.
The Four Pearl Income Streams
There are four ways to add Pearls to your balance. One is a one-off (tutorial), three are repeatable (chests, enemy kills, resource nodes). The repeatable streams have very different risk and pace profiles, so match the path to what you actually enjoy doing.
1. The Tutorial (guaranteed 1,800
)
The moment you dock, a five-step tutorial pops up: cut 5 Cactus with your Knife (200
), grow a Cactus (300
), sell at the Sell Stand (500
), buy a Machete from Roger (300
), and cut a Coconut Tree with your new Machete (500
). Total: 1,800
, exactly enough to cover the 500
Machete purchase plus a comfortable buffer for your next tool step. Every new player should burn through this first before touching anything else.
2. Resource Nodes (steady, zero risk)
Every wild plant on the island is a resource node. Hit it with the correct tool until it breaks, and the node drops a StackCost value in Pearls plus the plant's seed. StackCost scales with the tool tier required:
- Cactus drops 1
(Knife, respawn 60s) - Barrel Cactus and Prickly Pear drop 2
(Machete, 90s) - Coconut and Sea Bamboo drop 4
(Machete, 150s) - Crystal and Geode Bloom drop 6
(Pickaxe, 240s) - Lava and Lunar Plant drop 9
(Scimitar, 240-300s) - Isle Relic Tree drops 15
(GoldScimitar, 300s)
Patrol two or three spawns to keep something always breakable. Zero combat risk, predictable pace. This is the reliable baseline once you have a Machete.
3. Chests (high variance, easy)
Chests spawn across the island and respawn 90 seconds after opening. Every chest guarantees a reward, and 89 percent of rolls drop Pearls. The distribution is 50 percent small stash (30-70
), 25 percent medium (90-170
), 9 percent large (250-450
), and 2 percent jackpot (800-1500
). That jackpot is what makes chest hunting competitive: one lucky open covers the entire Machete plus Pickaxe purchase.
The remaining 11 percent of chest rolls drop early-tier island seeds (Cactus, Barrel Cactus, Prickly Pear, Coconut, Sea Bamboo), which is still net-positive because those seeds save you node-farming time. Chest patrol is the highest expected-Pearl-per-minute path for anyone comfortable with the variance.
4. Enemy Combat (steady with risk)
Three enemy types roam the island. Bandit has 40 HP, drops 10-15
per kill, respawns in 20 seconds, and is aggressive. Monk has 70 HP, drops 15-25
, respawns in 30 seconds, and is neutral (only fights back). Brute has 130 HP, drops the best 30-45
per kill, respawns in 40 seconds, and is aggressive.
Combat damage scales with the harvest tool equipped: Knife hits for 10, Machete 15, Pickaxe 20, Scimitar 25, GoldScimitar 30. That means a Bandit dies in 2 GoldScimitar swings but takes 4 Knife swings, and a Brute needs 5 Scimitar swings versus 13 Knife swings. Do not engage Brute with anything less than a Scimitar unless you enjoy losing.
The Full Pearl Economy Loop
Tools you buy from Roger sit on a Pearls-only ladder. Machete costs 500
, Pickaxe 2,000
, Scimitar 8,000
, and GoldScimitar 30,000
. That is 40,500
to reach the full endgame kit. The tutorial covers 1,800
, roughly 4 chest jackpots cover another 4,600
, and steady node farming plus combat fills the rest. Expect the full path from tutorial to GoldScimitar to take between 4 and 8 hours of active island time, depending on how hard you push chest hunting.
Aladdin's Pearl Shop stocks 26 decorations priced from 250
(Wood Fence) to 450,000
(Big Pond). Decorations are pure aesthetic spend, so treat them as the endgame Pearl sink once your tool ladder is complete. The Legendary tier (Pearl Hedge, Imperial Lantern, Celestial Archway, Big Pond) is where the serious Pearl commitments live.
Recommended Progression
Session one: complete the tutorial (1,800
), buy the Machete (500
), farm Barrel Cactus and Coconut nodes with the new Machete. Expect to hit 2,000
by the end of hour one.
Sessions two to three: buy the Pickaxe (2,000
), unlock Crystal and Geode Bloom, and start including chests in your patrol route. Bandit kills fill the gaps between node respawns. Target: 10,000
total.
Sessions four to five: buy the Scimitar (8,000
), farm Lava and Lunar Plant, engage Brutes for the best per-kill Pearl payout. Chest patrol continues in the background. Target: 30,000
total.
Endgame: buy the GoldScimitar (30,000
), unlock the Mythic Isle Relic Tree. From here you switch from tool grinding to Pearl Shop shopping, or you start stacking Molten mutations during Volcano Eruption events for absurd Lush values on your island crops.
