Garden Horizons Beginner's Guide โ€” Everything You Need to Know

New to Garden Horizons? This guide covers your first steps: planting seeds, earning Shillings, reaching Lush, and the most important mechanics every new player must understand.

BeginnerGetting StartedSeedsShillingsFirst Steps

Garden Horizons is a farming game on Roblox developed by Dawn Digital, released on 22 February 2026. You grow plants, collect and sell them for Shillings (the in-game currency), and work toward unlocking better crops and higher-value mutations. This guide walks you through everything you need to know to get started on the right foot.

Your First Steps

When you first join Garden Horizons, you're placed in Town Square โ€” the central hub where the three NPCs (Bill, Molly, and Steve) are located. Before you can do anything else, you need to acquire seeds and a plot.

1

Get seeds from Bill

Head to Bill to buy your first seeds. Carrots are the cheapest and fastest to grow, making them ideal for new players learning the basics. Stock up on as many seeds as your starting Shillings allow.
2

Find your plot

You are assigned a plot when you join. There are 6 plots in total. Walk to your plot โ€” the game will highlight yours โ€” and begin planting.
3

Plant and wait

Use your seeds on the soil tiles on your plot. Plants go through a ripening process over time. The longer a plant stays in the ground (while you are online), the higher its variant level will become.
4

Sell to Steve

Once your plants are ready, harvest them and take them to Steve to sell for Shillings. Your first few sells won't be huge โ€” that's normal. Reinvest in more and better seeds.
5

Buy tools from Molly

Molly sells gear and tools. Your first priority should be the Watering Can โ€” it speeds up plant growth significantly.

๐Ÿ’ก Start with Carrots

Carrots have a base weight of 0.07 kg and a base price of 30 ๐Ÿ’ฐ. They grow fast, which means faster cash flow to fund upgrades. Once you've saved enough, move to higher-value crops like Onion (300 ๐Ÿ’ฐ base) or Beetroot (3,750 ๐Ÿ’ฐ base).

Understanding Shillings

Shillings are the main currency in Garden Horizons. You earn them by selling harvested plants to Steve. The value of each plant depends on several factors:

  • Base price โ€” the plant's inherent starting value
  • Base weight โ€” heavier plants are worth more at harvest
  • Variant level โ€” Lush plants sell for 3ร— more than base
  • Mutations โ€” special weather effects that multiply value further

In the early game, focus on volume: grow many cheap, fast plants rather than waiting on one expensive one. As you accumulate Shillings, gradually shift to higher base-value crops.

What is the Lush Variant?

Lush (3ร—) is the most important milestone for every plant. A Lush plant is worth 3ร— its base value, making it the primary way to boost income once you get past the beginner stage. Reaching Lush requires keeping a plant alive and in the ground long enough for it to fully ripen โ€” this is called the ripening process.

The ripening time varies by plant type. Faster-ripening plants like Carrots reach Lush quicker, while premium crops like Beetroot take longer but pay off massively. See the How to Get Lush guide for the complete breakdown.

โ„น๏ธ Lush is 3ร— โ€” always aim for it

A Lush Carrot is worth 3ร— a plain Carrot. A Lush Beetroot at 3,750 ๐Ÿ’ฐ base price becomes a massive payout. Lush is always your target before selling any crop.

Mutations โ€” Your Secret Weapon

Weather events trigger mutations on your plants. Mutations are additive multipliers that stack on top of each other and on top of the Lush bonus. A Lush plant with a Starstruck (6.5ร—) mutation is one of the most valuable things you can grow in the game.

Don't worry too much about mutations in your first few sessions. Learn the basics first โ€” plant, wait, sell, upgrade. Once you understand the Lush system, read the Mutations Guide to maximise your earnings.

๐Ÿ’ก Don't rush โ€” learn each system before moving on

Garden Horizons rewards patience. Master each mechanic before layering on the next. Beginners who try to chase mutations before understanding Lush often waste sessions and Shillings.

Essential Gear Priority

Molly's shop sells tools that make farming much more efficient. As a beginner, prioritise in this order:

  1. Watering Can โ€” the most fundamental growth accelerator
  2. Favoriting Tool โ€” marks your most promising plants for Lush tracking
  3. Super Sprinkler โ€” automates watering across multiple tiles

Don't spend all your Shillings on seeds and neglect your tools. The long-term return on good gear is enormous compared to planting a few extra Carrots.

Top 5 Tips for New Players

  • โœ“
Stay online: Plants only ripen while you are in-game. Log in for meaningful sessions rather than quick check-ins.
  • โœ“
Watch the weather: The 5-minute weather cycle triggers mutations. Learn which events drop the best mutations.
  • โœ“
Favorite your best plants: Use the Favoriting Tool to track your highest-potential plants so you don't accidentally harvest them early.
  • โœ“
Reinvest early profits: Buy tools and better seeds immediately rather than hoarding Shillings.
  • โœ“
Join the community: Other players in the Garden Horizons community share weather alerts and tips in real time.

๐Ÿ’ก Next: learn to get Lush consistently

Now that you know the basics, read the How to Get Lush guide to understand exactly how the ripening system works and how to maximise your 3ร— bonus.
